Private Driving Evaluation & Lesson

Hands-on driving lesson &/or a driving evaluation with a certified instructor.

How It Works

Please note that the DMV no longer offers driver’s tests directly. We can arrange your test immediately following your final lesson, a process that has consistently helped students achieve higher scores. To begin, we recommend scheduling one lesson to allow the instructor to assess your skills and guide you on what went well, areas for improvement, and your readiness for the test. Private driving instruction and evaluations are available at a rate of $190 for a minimum session of two hours. If further instruction is needed, each subsequent hour is $95. To get started, please click the registration form button below.

Scheduling Information:

· Lessons (without test) are available at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, or 3:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

· Lessons that include a test can be scheduled for 8:00–10:30 AM, 9:30 AM–12:00 PM, 1:00–3:30 PM, or 2:30–5:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

· Appointments are currently set about 2+ months in advance for weekdays, and Saturdays are about 3+ months out.

· If you need to cancel or reschedule, you must do so in writing (email or text 970-426-8615) at least one full business day prior to your appointment. Failure to do so will result in a $50 rescheduling fee.

· Repeated cancellations or missed appointments will result in discontinuation of lessons and referral to another provider.

Driving Location:

All drives take place at 1911 Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301, in the north parking lot. Please meet your examiner by either a black Toyota Camry or a teal green Honda CRV, both clearly marked with 'STUDENT DRIVER' magnets. All instruction and testing are conducted in one of our student driver vehicles.

Payment Information:

· First 2-hour lesson: $190 in cash or check (made payable to 4CSA or Four Corners Safety Association), due upon arrival. Alternatively, $200 via Venmo (@fcsadgo) paid 48 hours before the lesson.

· Additional 1-hour lessons: $95 in cash or check, due upon arrival. Alternatively, $100 via Venmo (@fcsadgo) paid 48 hours before the lesson.

· Discount for 6 hours of lessons: $500 in cash or check, or $510 via Venmo (@fcsadgo), both due as noted above.

· Driver’s Test: $65 exact cash only, due at the time of the test. 2nd tests, if scheduled right away to retest within 30 days of the last test, are also $65, $80 if retesting after 30 days. 3rd & subsequent tests are $80 regardless of when scheduled/taken.

Session Rates and Requirements:

The 1st private driving lesson is a minimum of two hours at $190, with additional hours billed at $95 per hour. Before your first lesson, you must log at least 10 hours of supervised driving with a licensed driver to ensure you have basic experience, and all of the below hours before your test:

Required Practice Hours outside of 4CSA:

· Minors: 50 hours of at-home practice are recommended to prepare for the driver’s test.

· Adults: 20–30 hours of at-home practice are generally sufficient to prepare for the driver’s test.

Passing the driver’s test requires consistent practice at home in addition to professional lessons. Please do not expect to pass after only a few lessons; building competency is a combined effort of instruction and personal practice.

Driver’s Test Details:

4CSA is certified by the State of Colorado to administer driver’s tests. Payment for the test is required in exact cash upon arrival. The fees are structured as follows:

· First test: $65

· Second test: $65, if rescheduled right away & retested within 30days.

· Third and subsequent tests: $80 per test

· Rescheduling due to no-show, late arrival, or cancellation: additional $50

· If you are under 18, you must hold your permit for at least one year before taking the test.

· The test typically takes 20–25 minutes, plus 5–10 minutes for entering your information into DRIVES, the DMV database. Plan for about 30 minutes total.

· No paperwork will be provided; your test results are entered directly into the DMV system. You will pay the DMV’s required license fee.

· The Colorado DMV allows successful first-time test takers, without extraordinary circumstances, to convert their permit to a driver’s license online. If you prefer not to do this online, schedule an appointment with the DMV by phone or online. Licenses cannot be processed after 4:00 PM.

· You must have your current, valid Colorado learner’s permit with an expiration date at the time of testing.

· Payment is for the basic operator driving skill test required to obtain a license; passing is not guaranteed and there are no refunds.

· We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who is argumentative, combative, or disrespectful to our staff. You may be asked to seek another testing provider.
