Driver's Test
In accordance with the regulations established by the State of Colorado Driver Testing and Education Department, Division of Motor Vehicles
How It Works
To begin the process, please click the registration form button below. Once your registration is submitted, we will follow up via email with scheduling within 1 business day.
Eligibility Requirements:
To register for the drive test, you must have a current, valid, and unexpired Colorado Learner’s Permit in your possession. No exceptions will be made.
Scheduling Your Drive Test:
Drive test appointments are currently available 6+ weeks from the time of scheduling, depending on your availability. Saturday appointments may require a longer wait. Drive tests are scheduled in 30-minute increments and are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday between 8:00–11:30 AM and 1:00–4:30 PM. When submitting your registration, please specify your preferred days and times based on this availability. If you wish to be added to our cancellation list, indicate ‘cancellation’ in your registration form.
Pricing:
· First Test: $80 (cash only, exact change required)
· Second Test within 30 days: $65 (must be rescheduled immediately to receive this rate); $80 if rescheduled after 30 days
· Third and Fourth Tests: $80 each
· Fifth Test: $80, plus a required two-hour lesson ($190 via check or cash) before retesting
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy:
· Notice Requirement: Written notice (text or email) must be provided by 3:00 PM the day before your appointment to avoid a $50 cancellation fee.
· Late Arrivals and No-Shows: A $50 rescheduling fee will apply. If the appointment is for a discounted second test, the discount will also be forfeited.
· Multiple Changes: Repeated cancellations or rescheduling may result in forfeiture of future testing appointments.
Test Location:
All drive tests are conducted at:
1911 Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
Please meet your instructor in the north parking lot near the “Student Driver” vehicles (black Toyota Camry or teal green Honda CRV). Do not park in our reserved spots, but ensure you are at the vehicles by your scheduled time.
Requirements for Minor Students:
· If under 18, you must hold your permit for a full year before testing.
· If under 16½ and living within 30 miles of 1911 Main Ave Ste. 122, Durango, CO 81301, or any driving school, you must complete 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel lessons.
By submitting your information, you confirm that you understand and meet your specific requirements. For more details, see Colorado Permit and License Requirements by Age Group: https://www.4csa.info/permitlicense-requirements.html
Testing is conducted in our student driver vehicles unless you have a DUI Interlock restriction.
Policy for DUI Interlock Restrictions:
If your permit is restricted due to a DUI Interlock requirement, you must use your own vehicle for the test. Your vehicle must have Current registration (paper copy required) and insurance (digital or paper) & both front and back license plates (if registered in Colorado). No hanging items on the inside rear view mirror and no objects can be on the dashboard. We will also conduct a Colorado road ready safety laws check, including doors, seats, seatbelts, headlights, brake lights, turn signals, dash lights, ALL lights, and windshield integrity (no cracks), etc. All must be in proper working order per Colorado laws before testing can proceed.
Test Duration and DMV Processing:
The drive test typically takes 20–25 minutes, with an additional 5–10 minutes for entering your information into the state DMV database (DRIVES). Please plan for a total of 30 minutes. Paperwork will not be provided; your results will be entered directly into the DMV’s system. You will pay the applicable license fee directly to the DMV. If you pass on your first attempt and have no extraordinary circumstances, you may convert your permit to a driver’s license online: https://dmv.colorado.gov/anywhere. If you prefer, you may schedule an appointment at the DMV, but note that licensing services are unavailable after 4:00 PM: https://dmv.colorado.gov/AppointmentScheduling.
Feedback on Test Results:
If you do not pass your test, the instructor will provide immediate verbal feedback. Stay calm and attentive, so you know what to work on next time. Please note that feedback cannot be provided later.
Important Notices:
You are paying for the basic operator driving skills test required for licensure. Payment does not guarantee a passing grade. In order to obtain your license, you must pass the drive test as established by the Colorado Driver Testing and Education Department, following the guidelines of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and the Colorado Driver Handbook. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who is argumentative, combative, or disrespectful toward our evaluation, our advice, or any Four Corners Safety Association employee. Such individuals will be asked to leave and seek testing elsewhere.
